Where can you find us?

For more than 30 years IHLIA has been the source of information and the historic conscience of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons in the Netherlands. In Amsterdam, we are located on the sixth floor of the Amsterdam Public Library (OBA) on the Oosterdok Island. Visitors can come to the IHLIA plaza at the front side of the building where they can also enjoy a magnificent view of the city. In addition to the information desk at the plaza, there is also an exposition area. Furthermore, you can also see a small part of the collection.

Directions

The OBA can be reached easily by public transportation. Metros, trams and busses stop close to the OBA. From the Amsterdam Central Station it is only a few minutes’ walk. The OBA is located on the left side of the Central Station (if you are standing with your back to the station). Walk past the trams and along the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel. At the end of Oosterdokskade, you will see the Central Library

If you are coming by car, follow the signs for Oosterdokskade. You can park in Oosterdok Parking (just one of the parking options). This parking lot is next to the Central Station and can be reached from the A10. From the parking lot, it is only a few minutes’ walk to the OBA.

Beneath the OBA building you will find a free and covered bike shed that holds 2,500 bikes. You can leave and pick up your bike here 24 hours per day.
