Thank you for your interest in the special IHLIA collection. Want to know how you can request an item from the collection? On this page you can read all about our procedures.

The IHLIA collection contains rare documents. To safeguard the quality of our collection, you may peruse all the material, but only at our location. On your request, we prepare everything you need. The most recent and sought-after books in the collection are found in our book cabinets at the IHLIA plaza (3rd floor of the OBA in Amsterdam).

Search and request
Request your document (maximum 12 items) by pressing the button ‘Add to your selection’ and sending the list to us. Or send your selection with your own email to info@ihlia.nl  Note: You can find the list at the bottom of the search page. We will contact you within one working day (Monday to Thursday) about when you can examine the material.

 

Open Up!
The Open Up! collection is digitally available. To peruse this material you first have to apply for an IHLIA account. NOTE: due to privacy and copyright issues you can only peruse a part of the online collection via a so called tier 2 access. Therefore we kindly ask you to fill out an extra form. More information you can find at the Open Up! page at this website.

1) Consult our search engine or submit a request to the assistants at our information desk

You can research through the entire archive via online catalogue. It is an useful search environment with all kinds of applications which leads you easily to your desired result, such as the Homosaurus (keywords) and the ability to filter your results. Moreover, you can easily request your selection of documents (maximum 12 items) by pressing the button ‘Add to your selection’ and sending the list to us.

  • With an IHLIA account you have the option to store search queries

Our collection is also included in the catalogue of the OBA and AdamNet.

Need help?

  • Need help because you have problems finding information about your subject? Then consult our reading lists. It contains useful suggestions per subject.

 

  • Send an email to info@ihlia.nl Phrase your query clearly and to the point (IOW, the precise subject, which language or languages, country or countries and if possible for what purpose). A journalist most likely has different requirements than a scholar or student. Also include your telephone number and email address. If necessary, we can then contact you in order to consult with you. Plus the desired date for perusing the material.

 

  • For personal advice, you are more than welcome at the IHLIA Information desk at the IHLIA plaza. You go up to the 3rd floor of the OBA in Amsterdam. (Opening hours: Monday to Thursday: 12.00-17.00 uur).

2) We will contact you within one working day (Monday to Thursday) about when you can examine the material.

After receiving our notification, it still takes at least one working day (Monday to Thursday) before you can peruse the material. That way, we have sufficient time to get everything ready for you.

We respond to all requests; you can be sure that you didn’t contact us in vain. Still no answer from us? First check the spam filter of your email or call us.

3) Peruse the desired material at the IHLIA Information desk

During opening hours of the IHLIA Information desk you can examine the material.

If, nevertheless, you will not be able to keep to your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Always bring your IHLIA card with you when you come to look at materials. If you don’t have an IHLIA card, please bring a valid proof of identification (passport/ID card/driver’s license). The audio-visual material can be viewed / listened to by maximum two people at the same time.
