resume: The author explains that most gay men have problems with expressing anger. This leaves them helpless and vulnerable to manipulation, exploitation, being put upon, and being pushed around resulting in frustration. He likens it to being in a straitjacket. The problems this causes include being ineffective, being unable to stand up for themselves, the need to use poppers to achieve sexual satisfaction, sadism and masochism, the inability to find Mr Right and many more. When gay men see others doing things they are unable to do they develop low self-esteem. It also leaves them with all the problems associated with repressed anger such as depression, "bitching", a stifled personality (behind a "gay" façade), and inappropriate anger or bursts of uncontrolled anger. Why am I trapped by this single cause for all these problems? Why does it affect most gay men? How can I express my anger safely to solve all these problems? The author takes you through each of the various stages of explanation, release, development and fulfilment that you have been deprived of up to now to make you a happier, prouder, more fulfilled gay or bisexual man.

resume: Queer Blues is the only guide to focus on the triggers of depression specific to the gay and lesbian community and to offer concrete strategies to overcome them. The authors explain the many forms of depression and explore its unique impact on lesbians and gay men. A self-test helps readers determine their own level of depression and assess its impact on their lives. Readers go on to explore the reciprocal relationship between mood and self-esteem, assess core beliefs about their self-worth, and identify self-sabotaging habits that may make them vulnerable to both insecurity and depression. A final section provides tested, practical methods distilled from the authors' 25-plus years of clinical experience to help readers build a plan to effectively manage their depression.

resume: The practitioners of sexual conversion therapy, meant to "cure" homosexuals of their homosexuality, have overlooked a number of harmful effects and failed to produce a reliable clinical basis for their treatments, argue the editors. They present 11 contributions from the perspectives of patients and clinicians on the problems with sexual conversion therapy. The history and theoretical assumptions of the therapy are examined, testimonies of those who have suffered from conversion therapies are presented, and methods of giving healing therapy to those who suffered the trauma of conversion therapy are explored. Finally, a group of essays explore the ethical implications and concerns raised by sexual conversion therapies.

resume: Lesbians, Feminism, and Psychoanalysis: The Second Wave examines recent changes in psychoanalysis that have opened the door for new perspectives on same-sex desire. Authors from a variety of disciplines and theoretical orientations combine feminism with psychoanalytic and postmodern theories to celebrate diversity in gender and sexual experience. This collection of lesbian-affirmative writings addresses transference and countertransference, gender subjectivities, privilege and racism, therapist homophobia, and violence in lesbian relationships. In the past decade, psychoanalysis has undergone changes in clinical theory that have led to views on human sexuality that are less focused on what is ?normal? and therapy practices that resist attempts to fit individuals into prescribed developmental models. Lesbians, Feminism, and Psychoanalysis presents a variety of backgrounds (psychiatry, psychology, and social work), analytic training (formal institute training, study groups, supervision), and theoretical perspectives (self-psychology, object relations, relational psychoanalysis, feminist theory, queer theory, postmodernism, Lacanian theory) unified by the healing power of psychoanalytically informed theory and practice. The book is divided into three sections - "Community: Personal and Political," "Ongoing Clinical Issues," and "New Thinking on Sexuality ann Gender," addressing lesbian tomboy development, the queering of relational psychoanalysis, how attachment theory and intersubjectivity can contribute to newer gender theory.
