Thank you for your interest in the special IHLIA collection. Want to know how you can request an item from the collection? On this page you can read all about our procedures.
The IHLIA collection contains rare documents. To safeguard the quality of our collection, you may peruse all the material, but only at our location. On your request, we prepare everything you need. The most recent and sought-after books in the collection are found in our book cabinets at the IHLIA plaza (3rd floor of the OBA in Amsterdam).
1) Consult our search engine or submit a request to the assistants at our information desk
You can research through the entire archive via online catalogue. It is an useful search environment with all kinds of applications which leads you easily to your desired result, such as the Homosaurus (keywords) and the ability to filter your results. Moreover, you can easily request your selection of documents (maximum 12 items) by pressing the button ‘Add to your selection’ and sending the list to us.
Our collection is also included in the catalogue of the OBA and AdamNet.
2) We will contact you within one working day (Monday to Thursday) about when you can examine the material.
After receiving our notification, it still takes at least one working day (Monday to Thursday) before you can peruse the material. That way, we have sufficient time to get everything ready for you.
We respond to all requests; you can be sure that you didn’t contact us in vain. Still no answer from us? First check the spam filter of your email or call us.
3) Peruse the desired material at the IHLIA Information desk
During opening hours of the IHLIA Information desk you can examine the material.

If, nevertheless, you will not be able to keep to your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Always bring your IHLIA card with you when you come to look at materials. If you don’t have an IHLIA card, please bring a valid proof of identification (passport/ID card/driver’s license). The audio-visual material can be viewed / listened to by maximum two people at the same time.
