resume: This article describes the supervision and training aspects of two student counselors in their service to a transgender and lesbian married couple. Through journal assignments, multiple themes emerged from these supervisees' responses to serving this unique couple. Two critical areas of reflection included both counselors' concerns of clinical preparedness and experiences of supervision. Beyond the descriptors of transgender and lesbian, the counselors were least comfortable with the mere discussion of sexual intimacy and its place in the presenting problem for this couple. The arenas of clinical supervision, self of the therapist, and counselor preparation as it may promote active exploration of sexual intimacy discussion in the arena of couples counseling are explored along with implications for counselor educators' and supervisors' own ability to promote this candid and needed discussion with supervisees. resume: A story of Robert M. Walters, a retired U.S. Navy engineering duty officer who later became Robyn Marie Walters, and her husband Emery who also happens to be a transsexual. The two had much in common, having met late in life - Robyn was 62 and Emery, 56 - over the Internet. Both had previously been married twice. Both had four children, all now fully grown. And both had gender identity issues. Robyn had sexual reassignment surgery (SRS), going from male to female (M/F). Emery, born Carol Ann Forde, had been a wife and mother before deciding to have SRS to become a man (F/M).

resume: Curt Scharlach wurde am 14. september 1892 in eine jüdische Familie geboren in Berlin. Er unterzog sich in Berlin einer chirurgischen Geschlechtsangleichung, nahm den Vornamen Charlotte an und "französisierte' seinen Nachnamen. Nach Angaben Ragnar Ahlsteds war sich der junge Curt schon im Alter von sieben Jahren darüber im Klaren, ein Mädchen zu sein. Ab seinem zwanzigsten Lebensjahr habe er sich auch mit offizieller Erlaubnis in Frauenkleider bewegt. Die Geschlechtsangleichung wurde in 1930 geführt. Charlotte Charlaque lernte ihre spätere Freundin und Lebenspartnerin Toni Ebel (1881-1961) vor Abschluss von deren geslchlechtangleichung kennen. Toni Ebel lebte noch um 1930 unter ihrem Geburtsnamen Arno Lebel. Ab 1932 verbanden sie eine Liebesbeziehung, die erst 1942 vond den Nationalsozialisten zerstört wurde, indem die beiden Frauen gezwungen wurden, sich zu trennen.

resume: Considering marriage a primary institution through which norms are transmitted, the authors examine the ways in which entrance into heteronormative respectability is differently available to transgender-cisgender couples and lesbian couples who marry in South Africa. Through qualitative work with transgender-cisgender and lesbian couples, the authors conclude that though marriage through the Marriage Act should speak for itself, admission to heteronormativity requires a labor of doing heterosexuality, conditioned, for the couples represented here, upon a denial of the transgender person's transgender identity. At the same time, the Civil Union Act, through which same-sex couples access marriage, has been positioned as a 'different kind of marriage', though it offers the same legal benefits, protections, and responsibilities available through the Marriage Act. While marriage through the Marriage Act promises entrance into heteronormativity, lesbian couples who marry through the Civil Union Act become engaged in a discursive process of consolidating respectability within the parameters of their marriages.
