Analysing the lived realities and experiences of gay Malaysian men who migrated to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom

Hello! My name is Wai Min and I am currently a student at the Institute of Social Studies in the Master of Arts in Development Studies. I am a gay Malaysian man. For my Master thesis, I aim to explore and analyse the lived realities and experiences of gay Malaysian men who have migrated and are currently living in the Netherlands or the United Kingdom. I am interested in understanding their motivations for migration, and especially the role that being gay might have had in decision to migrate. I also hope to learn about their expectations regarding the current country of residence, and actual experiences of living as a gay Asian migrant in the Netherlands and the UK.

I hope to have individual, face-to-face qualitative interviews with men who accept this invitation. You may choose to be anonymous. The following criteria are important for the participation in the research: –
You are or have been a Malaysian citizen;
– who identifies himself as a gay man and
– who has migrated and has been living in the Netherlands OR the United Kingdom for more than six months

Through this research, I hope to provide a more nuanced analysis of the lived realities and experiences of gay Malaysian men in the context of migration, to make sense of the migration dynamics, to contribute to academic research concerning gay Asian identities, as well as to produce knowledge that might be relatable and empowering for gender and sexual minorities.

Please share this invitation for interviews with persons who fulfil the criteria. If you or someone you know are interested to be interviewed, please message me on Facebook or email me at kanwaimin@gmail.com. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

“There’s really no such thing as the ‘voiceless’. There are only the deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard.” ― Arundhati Roy

Thank you very much.

Italy and LGBT tourism

I am an Italian student of the master degree course in Design of Sustainable Tourism Systems at the University of Florence. I have prepared this survey which is part of my thesis on the topic ‘LGBT tourism in Italy’. Your answers, which will be completely anonymous, represent a fundamental contribution for me to understand what the LGBT community thinks about Italy as a tourist destination.
